Price is per blank. The blanks shown are representative of the blank you will receive, but are not necessarily the exact blank you will receive.
Blanks measure 3/4"+ x 5"+.
These blanks have gunmetal gray holographic glitter in 1.0mm size. The glitter in this blank is holographic. Meaning that in addition to the bright primary color you see, when the glitter is viewed from the correct angle other colors will flash. The holographic effect is extremely evident in this blank.
The glitter has been cast in a clear alumilite base. The blanks may look solid in the photos; but they are very clear and when turned to the thinner dimensions of a finished pen, you will definitely notice. Because of this, we recommend painting the interior of the blank after drilling. You can paint the inside of the blank any color you want. The color you choose will really impact the final appearance though.
Our Glitter Alumilite blanks have that butter-smooth turn that you've come to expect from Alumilite, however the glitter does tend to make a mess. Expect to find glitter for a while after you turn. When finishing the Glitter blank, we've found that using a CA finish has given us the smoothest finish. If you donít use a CA Finish (we use a few coats of Super Thin), you can feel the slightest texture of the glitter on the surface of your turned blank.
In the transparency photo below, the amount of glitter looks a little thinner at the top of the blank. Some of the glitter sinks a little during casting, but we have never had any issues or bare spots in the Glitter blank in the final turned project because of it.
Small voids in any Glitter blanks are to be expected. We put a lot of glitter in these blanks and some air bubbles and small tear-outs will occur when turning. We recommend using medium viscosity CA glue to fill these voids while the lathe is turned off. Be absolutely sure the CA glue has FULLY cured before you turn the lathe back on.
These Glitter Alumilite blanks are made in-house here at Bear Tooth Woods. We are starting small and only have the molds to make 3/4" x 5" pen blanks, but we have plans to expand if the demand is there from our customers, so let us know. Comments, compliments for Tori, tips, suggestions, complaints, etc. are all appreciated.
