These blanks mix fantastic colors of mica powders with just the perfect amount of glitter. We have always felt other blanks needed more glitter, so Bear Tooth Woods decided to start making our own and we have named this line of blanks "Glitter Swirl." Tori is the master of color and she is bringing you imaginative mixes of colors and glitter in these blanks for your projects.
Santa Fe Sparkle was born when Tori found some gorgeous color palettes on Pinterest perfect for recreating in a blank. After doing some research, Tori took the original color palette, made some modifications and concocted this gorgeous color scheme encapsulating all the beauty of a southwestern landscape. The Custom mixes for the Blue, Red Coral, and Mint Green colors were inspired by the gorgeous turquoise stones found in traditional Native American jewelry pieces. The peach and gold were inspired by the sunset over the Santa Fe skyline, creating a shimmery orange and gold bed for the day to sleep in.
Santa Fe Sparkle is a 5-color blank consisting of Ultra Fine Gold Holographic glitter, Red Coral, Light Mint Green, Turquoise Blue and Peach Micas. All the colors in this blank were colors Tori custom mixed in order to get that perfect southwestern flavor.
The glitter in this blank has been cast in a clear alumilite base. The blanks may look solid in the photos; but they do have a portion of the blank that is clear and when turned to the thinner dimensions of a finished pen, you likely will notice. Because of this, we recommend painting the interior of this blank after drilling. You can paint the inside of the blank any color you want, however the color you choose will really impact the final appearance.
With the amount of colors in this blank, you may notice it is hard to find a pattern match for 2-tubed kits. The top and the bottom of the blank may look drastically different depending on the pour.
Our Glitter Alumilite blanks have that butter-smooth turn that you've come to expect from Alumilite, however the glitter does tend to make a mess. Expect to find glitter for a while after you turn. When finishing the Glitter blank, we've found that using a CA finish has given us the smoothest finish. If you don’t use a CA Finish (we use a few coats of Super Thin), you can feel the slightest texture of the glitter on the surface of your turned blank.
Small voids in any Glitter blanks are to be expected. We put a lot of glitter in these blanks and some air bubbles and small tear-outs will occur when turning. We recommend using medium viscosity CA glue to fill these voids while the lathe is turned off. Be absolutely sure the CA glue has FULLY cured before you turn the lathe back on.
These Glitter Swirl Alumilite blanks are made in-house here at Bear Tooth Woods. Comments, compliments for Tori, tips, suggestions, complaints, etc. are all appreciated and help us do our job better.
