Bear Tooth Woods is bringing you a limited-edition Summer Heat Wave 2021 blank that will only be available July 21st - August 21st, 2021. Any blanks on the shelf after August 21st will still be available for sale, but no additional blanks will be made after that time. Some of the glitter used in the blanks are extremely limited, but we believe we have procured enough for the entire run (fingers crossed).
For those who donít enjoy the scorching summer sun and being baked under her harsh rays, this blank is for you. The colors of this blank were inspired by a post-apocalyptic wasteland where the sun has scorched the earth and no living life form can roam. Just because you donít enjoy the summer heat doesnít mean you canít enjoy this gorgeous blank on one of your finished projects while you sit inside with your air conditioning blasting.
When Tori was tasked with coming up with these Heat Wave Blanks, she found this really unique waffle cut colorshift glitter and from there Solar Scorch was forged. Sometimes you find a really cool glitter and you just have to wait for that right blank to mix it in. She added custom mixed wine red and shimmer copper mica powders to finish off the blank.
The glitter has been cast in a clear alumilite base. The blanks may look solid in the photos; but they are very clear and when turned to the thinner dimensions of a finished pen, you will definitely notice. Because of this, we highly recommend painting the interior of the blank after drilling. You can paint the inside of the blank any color you want, but the color you choose will really impact the final appearance.
Our Glitter Alumilite blanks have that butter-smooth turn that you've come to expect from Alumilite, however the glitter does tend to make a mess. Expect to find glitter for a while after you turn. When finishing the Glitter blank, we've found that using a CA finish has given us the smoothest finish. If you donít use a CA Finish (we use a few coats of Ultra Thin), you might be able to feel the slightest texture of the glitter on the surface of your turned blank.
Small voids in any Glitter blanks are to be expected. We put a lot of glitter in these blanks and some air bubbles and small tear-outs will occur when turning. We recommend using medium viscosity CA glue to fill these voids while the lathe is turned off. Be absolutely sure the CA glue has FULLY cured before you turn the lathe back on.
These Glitter Alumilite blanks are made in-house here at Bear Tooth Woods. We are starting small and would love any comments, compliments, tips, suggestions, complaints, etc.
