Price is per blank. The blanks shown are representative of the blank you will receive, but are not necessarily the exact blank you will receive.
Blanks measure 3/4"+ x 5"+.
Bear Tooth Woods has created another category of blanks for Tori's Glitter Alumilite creations. These blanks are meant for Small Projects and not necessarily for pen blanks (you can see why in the last picture below). Tori has turned the blank into a Diamond Painting Pen to show it off, but we know how creative our customers are in finding many other uses in addition to Diamond Painting Pens for these great blanks. Don't forget to tag us (@beartoothwoods) on Social Media if you show them off on Facebook or Instagram as we LOVE seeing what you do!
Tori always likes the challenge of creating combinations with crazy colors. This translucent chunky green glitter was such a vibrant color that Tori knew immediately that she wanted to use it for a blank. She added fluorescent yellow to compliment the green and a dash of purple holographic glitter to add some dimension.
The glitter has been cast in a clear alumilite base. The blanks may look solid in the photos, but look how transparent they are in the photo below. If you do decide to use this with a tubed project (we don't really recommend this because there will be noticeable bare spots in the glitter on tubed kits. This blank also had a lot of "broken" hearts or heart glitter turned apart.), we recommend painting the interior of the blank after drilling. You can paint the inside of the blank any color you want. The color you choose will really impact the final appearance though.
Our Glitter Alumilite blanks have that butter-smooth turn that you've come to expect from Alumilite, however the glitter does tend to make a mess. Expect to find glitter for a while after you turn. When finishing the Glitter blank, we've found that using a CA finish has given us the smoothest finish. If you don’t use a CA Finish (we use a few coats of Super Thin), you can feel the slightest texture of the glitter on the surface of your turned blank.
Small voids in any Glitter blanks are to be expected. We put a lot of glitter in these blanks and some air bubbles and small tear-outs will occur when turning because of the glitter size. Please go slow and use sharp tools. Light, easy cuts are recommended.
We recommend using medium viscosity CA glue to fill these voids while the lathe is turned off. Be absolutely sure the CA glue has FULLY cured before you turn the lathe back on.
These Small Project Glitter Alumilite blanks are made in-house here at Bear Tooth Woods. We are starting small and only have the molds to make 3/4" x 5" pen blanks. Comments, compliments for Tori, tips, suggestions, complaints, etc. are all appreciated.
