This mechanical pencil mechanism can be used to turn most of the twist pens sold by Bear Tooth Woods (the ones using a Parker style refill) into a pencil. The fit isn't always perfect (the nib doesn't protrude as far out of the nib), but with a little testing to make sure it works with your kit you can turn any Parker style twist pen into a mechanical pencil.
This pencil mechanism can work with the Sierra Button Click pen kits, but it is not recommended. The pencil mechanism is slightly longer than a Parker style refill, so the transmission does not fully seat and there is a gap between the nib assembly and the body.
This does NOT work with the Bolt Action pen kits.
Installation Instructions:
- Remove the pen refill and the refill spring from your twist pen (Cigar, Sierra, etc).
- Place this pencil mechanism into the pen. It likely will not stick out as much as the pen refill.
- Screw the transmission down onto the pencil mechanism. It is possible that you will not be able to screw the transmission completely down. That is OK.
- Replace the cap.
Operating Instructions:
- To extend the pencil lead, twist the cap clockwise.
- Twist the cap counter clockwise to lock the lead in place. You have to manually twist the cap back into the locked position.
- Repeat the above steps to extend more of the lead.
- To retract the pencil lead, twist the cap clockwise, and press the lead into the nib. Then manually twist the cap back into the locked position.
Refill Instructions:
- Remove the cap and the twist mechanism.
- Pull out the pencil mechanism.
- Pull the top black plastic tube cover out of the tube.
- Insert several refill leads.
- Replace the cover, insert back into the pen body, and replace the twist mechanism and the cap.
